About this event

The LA City Controller’s Office will be hosting their first ever Iron Viz competition for a chance to earn a limited-term, paid public servant job*. The competition will be broken up into two rounds each focusing on a different data-set, and all participants will be required to use the Tableau software in creating their work.

Agenda

10:00 a.m. – 10:25 a.m. Introduction.
10:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. Round 1 + Judging – All approved participants will be invited to compete in the first round, in which they will have 30 minutes to visualize a given dataset.
11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Round 2 + Judging – A selected number of participants will advance to round two, during which they will have 30 minutes again to visualize a separate dataset. In this round, there will be an added speaking component, in which contestants are given 4 minutes to explain/pitch their dashboard.
1:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Winners Announced and Closing Remarks.
1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Networking

*This competition shall serve as a test in determining the best candidate for the available position. The winner (selected candidate) may still be subject to interview, background check and other clearances to determine their fitness for this position. The position is part-time and does not have benefits. The compensation for the position is an hourly rate of $18.88 – $21.31 and will be dependent upon qualifications.
